So to say that I am behind on my posts is an understatement! But I am going to try and get back on track. Starting with Hunter turning 5 a few weeks ago. With all that has been going on with Covid 19, it was decided to have an outdoor birthday party at Claytor Lake. It was initially scheduled for a Saturday but it was looking like rain so we switched it by a day. Thankfully the reservation was also able to be switched so that we could still have a shelter. We started the birthday weekend by camping at Claytor Lake (more about the camper later). We had a great spot with close proximity to a few grassy areas that the kids could play and climb trees. They also met a boy at the site next to ours who was just a little older than Hannah and they all had fun playing together. Saturday ended up being a fairly nice day and not a wash out as anticipated.
Sunday we started the day by swimming in the lake and were joined by some party friends. Then we headed over to Shelter 5 for pizza from the Perfect Pizza as well as cake. The kids played on the playground a little and ate then opened presents. Hunter received a lot of Legos as well as some other great gifts. It was fun to still be able to have a party and feel safe being outside. The Seths came back to the camper for a few minutes to check out the set up and Grandma and Paw Paw also hung out for a while with us.
Monday, Hunter's actual birthday, we were supposed to go kayaking. We headed over to the area with the kayaks but they were not open. Evidently with the forecasted rain no one was working. We bumped our kayaking reservation to Tuesday and went out in a paddle boat instead! The kids had a great time jumping off and playing in the water. They did not mind that it was sprinkling. It was a lot of fun and helped pass some time in the rain. Thankfully we finished before the rain really started coming down. Nana and Grandpa joined us in the evening for a cookout of hamburgers and hot dogs and more cake.
Hunter is excited to be 5. Of course he wanted to know when he starts kindergarten and was a bit disappointed to find out he would be back at the Learning Circle. This was a decision we had made pre-Covid but are especially glad that we delayed starting kindergarten given the current pandemic. Hunter loves Legos and watching Minecraft as well as Mario. He has yet to play any video games but he is fascinated by them. He loves to swim and is like a fish in the water. He is kind but does not know his strength (or weight) at times. He loves to be tickled, most of the time. He is also a problem solver. Still enjoys puzzles and mazes. I do have his birthday questions, just need to get them uploaded first.
